Checklist: What should every blog have?

  • Blog title
  • Intro
  • h2 Key takeaways - 3-5 bullet points summarizing the content
  • Content - structured in h2s, h3s, and h4s; enriched with quotes, videos, and images
  • h2 Conclusion/Summary

Content: What to write on each section

Blog title

  • Do: keep it to a maximum of 65 characters
  • Don't: use m-dashes (too long)
  • We use sentence case to convey a conversational tone. Examples:
    • This is a title that is blog-friendly
    • Ten tips: How to write a blog in 7 steps
    • Cats or dogs? Cats are way better (but dogs are OK)

Intro

  • Don't: use cliches, such as "in the ever-evolving world of e-commerce"

Key takeaways + Summary

  • Don't: use only "Key takeaways," "Conclusion," "Summary"
  • Do: Use the space for keywords, as in "Conclusion: Writing an awesome blog post for Open Loyalty"

Content structure

Hi, I'm a paragraph! I have a maximum of five lines on mobile. If I'm longer than that, no one will read me and I will be a sad paragraph. :( So please help me become a happy paragraph by ensuring I'm not too long. This length seems about right and I still can wish you a good day!

You can help me by placing emphasis on key words. Then people will know where to focus and won't drift away, yay! But please don't overuse the emphasis otherwise it loses its purpose – see?

header about key features

Use and abuse h2, h3, h4. If the content has more than one paragraph, a header fits better than bullet points.

Minidictionary of spellings

  • E-commerce, e-commerce (not eCommerce)
  • Frontend/backend (nouns, "The frontend and backend are decoupled"),
  • Front-end/back-end (compound adjectives, "The front-end team likes to eat sushi")
  • Open Loyalty (not Openloyalty)

Text elements: which ones and how to use

Links

When linking competitors, add rel=nofollow

When linking an internal homepage, don't add the URL; instead, choose the page from the list

Also pay attention to the page type. Usually:

  • Page, blogposts, case study, resource = good
  • Loyalty mechanics = bad

List with bullet points or numbers

  • A quick intro – now the rest of the content. This item has a final dot, so all items also have it for consistency.
  • Incorporating gamification motivates users to participate more actively – Game-like elements such as rewards for achievements, tiered status, and competitive features like Robinhood’s crypto rewards engage customers more deeply and frequently with the platforms.
  • Customization and personalization improve user satisfaction – Platforms that offer tiered services or customizable features, such as N26's multiple account options and Revolut's lifestyle perks, allow users to tailor their financial experience to meet personal needs, enhancing their overall satisfaction and loyalty.
