Open Loyalty's new real-time incentives let your store show members what they'll earn while they're still deciding, on the product listing, the product page, the cart and the thank-you page.

Every value matches what the program awards in real time.

The problem

Shoppers decide what to buy while they browse, but loyalty often shows up after checkout, as a points total on the receipt or an email when the order ships.

Bringing it forward is a hard problem for any store. Each member's points depend on their tier, their cart and the campaigns running that day, so a product page can't show one number the way it shows a price.

Stores that try often keep point values by hand, and those values go out of date when a campaign ends or a reward pool runs out.

The solution

Real-time incentives tell the store what each member gets from a purchase in a single response, before they buy and right after.

Different interfaces, same real-time incentives

On a listing page, each product can show its own value, such as "Buy this and earn 24 points", calculated for the member's tier and current cart.

In the cart, the store can show what's missing for the next reward ("Add 1 item from the coffee range and get +100 points"), and on the receipt points appear line by line (machine +60, capsules +88), so members and support teams can see where every point came from.

After payment, the thank-you page can say "You missed 50 points on this order – here's how to get them next time."

The same response covers challenges and in-app actions, for example "2 of 3 devices registered – one more to unlock your reward." Because points, rewards and challenge progress are granted in the same call, members see the result straight away.

All values come from your existing campaign configuration, including tier multipliers and limits. Rewards a member isn't eligible for, or whose pool has run out, are never suggested, and names come back in the member's language.

Real-life use cases

Points on every product in a listing

On a category page, in search results or on a QSR menu, each product can show what it earns, such as "+25 pts", calculated against the current cart, so the program appears while the shopper is still choosing.

Pain points addressed: loyalty that stays out of sight while shoppers choose, and one request per product to show points.

Real-life data through A/B testing

A loyalty team creates two versions of the checkout page. Half of the users see version A, which shows how many points they will get after purchase. The other half sees version B, which shows points, a progress bar to the current challenge, and available coupons.

The team compares the checkout page version for one month: A had a 30% conversion rate, and B had a 45% conversion rate. They decide to stick with version B, and plan the next A/B testing to optimize conversion further.

Pain points addressed: data-driven loyalty teams without enough live information about their users' preferences.

A nudge in the cart

With two products in the cart, the store can show "Add 1 item from the audio category and get +100 points", or in a QSR app "Add a drink to your order and get +50 points", which raises basket value before payment.

Pain points addressed: upsell rules rebuilt outside the loyalty platform, and benefits shown only after payment.

Points per line on the receipt

Showing points line by line ("earbuds +278, cable +10, basket bonus +14") tells the shopper what earned the points, and it gives retailers line-by-line visibility of promoted brands that they can offer to brand partners.

Pain points addressed: members and support teams unable to tell which product earned the points, and promoted brands with no proof they were seen.

"So close" after payment

The thank-you page or a push notification can say "Had X been in your cart, you would have earned 50 more points", a message the loyalty experts we work with point to as a way to change behaviour on the next purchase.

Pain points addressed: missed rewards that members never hear about.

Live challenge progress

In an app, at a kiosk or at a venue, members can see progress such as "Scan 5 product codes: 3/5" or "Attend 3 events this season: 2/3", and a preview can tell them that a purchase will complete the challenge.

Pain points addressed: members waiting for their profile to refresh before they see challenge progress.

Instant rewards for in-app actions

When a member registers a device, the confirmation screen can say "+200 points added", and a stadium or festival gate scan can return "+100 points: welcome back", without the member waiting for points to appear.

Pain points addressed: "your points will appear shortly" messages that weaken trust in the program.

"Loyalty works best where the decision happens.

Now the product page and the cart can show each member what they'll earn, live – and incentivize them to shop more and come back often."

Getting started

Real-time incentives are already available to Open Loyalty clients. New clients can book a demo at openloyalty.io.

Existing integrations keep working unchanged, and each part of the answer is opt-in, so teams can start with listing prices and add suggestions or challenge progress later. Existing clients can contact their account team.
